StumbleUpon — Urban Dictionary
Sapiosexual
One who finds intelligence the most sexually attractive feature.
As an aside: StumbleUpon is really fun. You sometimes get some great websites. And as a second aside: I finished the second episode (and thus the first disc) of Heroes Season 1. I am hooked. It is fantastic. Second disc should be arriving tomorrow!
TV Shows and New iPods
I can’t believe it is already Thursday. Having Monday off for Labor day really does shorten the week.
I began watching Heroes last night. Just the first episode. I’m netflix-ing the first season (one disc at a time). The only TV show I regularly watch would be Lost. And maybe Spongebob Squarepants, though I never think “Oh, its 2:30. Spongebob is on! Gotta go watch it!”. I watch it on DVD, as well as the multipe multiple reruns that are shown at various times.
I’ve decided to buy an iPod shuffle, refurbished for $50. I’m getting sick of taking my iPod video to the gym. And, the new iPods look crazy awesome. And, I still want an iPhone at some point in the very near future.
I am determined to have a really productive day today. So ready, set, go!
**Edited 5:01 pm**
I think I got one of the last iPod shuffles. When I was browsing this morning, they had a Silver, Blue, and Green. I ordered the Green, and now it and the Blue are no longer listed. In addition, it shipped already! I should have it sometime next week. Yay!
My University of Miami Computer Science Major
I just wanted to briefly rant about my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science I currently have from the University of Miami. That is, if you all don’t mind a bit of ranting:
First, my ex-girlfriend went to James Madison University for their (double checking on her website) Interactive Media major and a minor in Computer Science. Allow me to repeat for those of you who read that quickly. A MINOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE. (I also capitalized every letter for fun. Cause fun is fun).
I can summarize how terrible my Computer Science (major) program was at U of M in one sentence (with the previous statement as a preface): She was doing and learning stuff her Freshman year that I didn’t even start to learn until my Junior year.
Granted, I am a fast learner. And I am very good at problem solving (a must for computer science and any sort of coding application) so much so that I have found an application for this in my current job with Warner Music Group. However, something such as javascript I never even looked at during my entire bachelors degree. I mean, at all. None. Zero. Talk to a programmer, that’s unbelievable.
I would like to think that my “Major” at the University of Miami for Computer Science gave me an adequate “foundation” of learning that would further enable me to freely and easily learn whatever programming language was thrown at me in the “real world”. And, if I sit for a moment and think about this, it is true. I do have this solid foundation layer. However, I am stuck with the unfortunate task of applying for jobs having no real hands-on experience with programming language X or application Y. I am stuck trying to word my resume so that it is obvious that I have the “ability” to pick up whatever I need to easily (the truth, I swear). It’s quite hard.
I would love to work for Google. I would love to do any kind of programming for Apple. I would love to do something that would slow the atrophy of everything I learned from going to a good college for 4 years. But unfortunately, I don’t currently have the experience needed to put together a resume/portfolio that is fully representative of my talents and get a job in that field.
Wanna Go For a Ride in the Car?
I’m doing my best to work a little with the look of this website. Its just so hard to get into coding again after taking SO much time off (over a full year since graduation, plus additional negative time senior year where coding for my CS major was much lighter). I will get around to it soon enough. Promise.
In other news, I have uploaded a video of this dog pictured above doing his routine “happy” spin. You can get him wired by asking “Wanna go for a ride in the car?” (Dog/Baby voices are preferred and have a more significant effect while standing and making eye contact with the dog — haha, Keith). He’ll run to the garage door and wait for you to open it. While he’s standing there, you can ask the question again and he’ll usually bark and do a spin in place. The video below, he crashed, I thought it was amusing so not only did I post it on my YouTube account, I also wrote this dumb post about it. Hope SOMEONE enjoys it!
Pen 15
Dammit, I got pen on my shirt. Why did I do that? Well, it was an accident. But, ugh! Right on my stomach too. I hope this come out. My tide pen (ironic?) is at home, I will try that later. Otherwise, double-dammit.
