A Perfect Fake

with 4 comments

Since nobody reads Pete’s Blog, I’ve transcribed his latest post. I placed a CD/DVD order this past month. Here’s what happened once the batch of things arrived:

Pete: I hate you.
Pete: Oh god, I hate you.
Adam: Why? Why?
Adam: What happened?
Pete: Did you order “A Perfect Fake”?
Adam: Haha… Why?
Adam: It’s a documentary. Looked interesting.
Pete: I hate you.
Adam: What happened?
Adam: HAHAHA! the COVER!
Pete: Nothing happened. It’s just that I’m now on company record as ordering a documentary about sex dolls
Adam: Haha!
Adam: Hahahaha!
Adam: It’s about digital artistry. And THEN into sex dolls.
Pete: So… Did you really want this? Or were you just trying to be funny?
Adam: I looked online.
Pete: Be honest. I’m trying to calculate the appropriate level of wrath with which to descend upon you.
Adam: No seriously. I went looking through the DVDs, under Documentary.
Pete: And when you did this “research” it didn’t occur to you what it was about?
Adam: Yes. I only read things stating it was about CGI and stuff.
Adam: Like that Final Fantasy film, where everyone was CGI.
Pete: Well, i read a little bit about it too, and one of the first things I gathered about it was the fact that it was about lonely Japanese men building detachable plastic vagina’s into latex anime girls.
Adam: Wow… Yea.
Adam: I missed that stuff. That’s funny though.

I’ll be sure to write a review at some point.

Cafe Du Nord, Matthew Good

with 3 comments

Last night, out of a small venue on Market Street in San Francisco, Matthew Good performed the third show of his Solo United States Tour. The Cafe Du Nord was a neat place, and sounded great (kudos to the sound engineer). I was in the middle of the 5th row. Though, that implies some well-defined space between each seat and the one in front of it. I was in the 5th chair from the stage. Seating is such an relieving bonus at a mellow show such as this one.

What do I look for in a concert performance that I’ve seen thrice already? Content. And for that, it was nice to hear “Moon Over Marin”. Besides that it was same-old, same-old. Though for someone who was apparently sick (again), performance-wise Matt did a great job. Now, comparing this show to the other times is a difficult task that I don’t plan on attempting. It’s been too long since the Buffalo show and the material last night was too similar for me to be wow-ed into immediately claiming it the best. Let’s just leave the review at: “I was not disappointed at all”.

Since my photos from the show were awful, below is “A Silent Army In The Trees” into “Black Helicopter”:

Richard Dawkins at UC Berkeley

Richard Dawkins at UC Berkeley

Well, its about a 30 minute drive to Berkeley, California if there isn’t any traffic. This evening, Richard Dawkins hit up the Wheeler auditorium at University of California’s Berkeley campus on his “The God Delusion University Tour”. In all, I’m glad I went. However there really wasn’t anything special about this 50 minute lecture (and 5 minute Q&A session immediately following). The topics and ideas presented were near identical to those found in The God Delusion, which I read of course. Basically, it was cool just to see Dickie Dawkins talk in person. I snapped the picture above which looks awful.

Tomorrow will be (another) Matthew Good acoustic show. I’m really only going because of the venue’s proximity. Had he been performing anywhere over, say, a 40 minute drive, I don’t think I would make the trip. After having seen “the show” 3 times already now, it gets kinda old. Now, his full band tour (only in Canada, unfortunately) is a different story. And as such I may need to hit up Vancouver in June.

Something to Hold All of This

Lots of CDs

What you are looking at is 500+ CDs. I have nothing to put them in, still! The remaining floor-wall space in my apartment is small to none and I’d rather not have a big rack thing taking up an entire wall. Yet I would like to have them “on display” for easier access (I spent too long trying to find Duke to listen to in surround sound.. no luck). I had 2 tower things from Ikea that held a little less than 200 CDs each. Clearly I’ve grown out of those (and don’t have them anymore anyway). Anyone have any suggestions?

Page Updates, Other Updates to Follow

I’ve included a picture with this post to generate comments, since picture = comments.

iSight Shot

Alright, I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the latest addition to this website: New Years 2008 (also located in the sidebar). Basically, (and this is all explained on the page) my good friend Jim and I came up with the idea of doing a New Years Eve performance. Since the idea came far too late this past year, we figured the next logical time would be for 2008. The show would be an all night headlining thing. Confirmed to perform in this “band” so far are just me and Jim, but we know plenty of other musicians to figure something out. We’re looking to get together the best darn set list ever and need your help. Via commenting, leave us an idea. Pose a song for us to perform live, on New Years Eve evening. It’ll be a long night, so we need a lot of material.

Really think about it. A band, performing on New Years Eve, live (of course), what would a crowd of people enjoy seeing? What would we enjoy performing? Some songs are just clearly, objectively better than others in this type of situation. But, leave absolutely anything! And keep coming back!

That’s it for this post. I actually do have some other topics but don’t really feel like typing here anymore. I think that Mike Patton should re-mix Mr. Bungle’s California album into 5.1. That would sound so good.

Stay Tuned

with one comment

I’ve got stuff to write about, I swear! I just haven’t had time to sit down and put together a comment-worthy post. Stay tuned. Maybe tomorrow? Happy March to everybody!

What the hell was the point of writing any of this?
