Another Missed Concert
Add another New York-based concert that I’ll be missing: some MySpace Secret Show with Gnarls Barkley and Battles.
Hey, at least I got to see Crudo!
AND TODAY IS MY VIRTUAL FRIDAY, AND THE 2 HOUR LOST FINALE IS TONIGHT!!!
Calloused
That word looks gross when it’s written out.
The tips on my left hand’s fingers are calloused-up from playing guitar. It makes it feel strange to type on a computer keyboard. Your welcome for sharing.

Strange and Bizarre RnB & Hip Hop

Last night marked the world debut of Crudo. A brand new collaboration between Mike Patton and Dan “The Automator”. As of writing this, the only decent information is available on the band’s Myspace page and a brief note on the Ipecac Recordings website (Patton’s record label). You can hear one track so far, “Let’s Go”, but an EP is definitely in the works.
The show was fantastic. Very enjoyable. I forgot to grab earplugs, so unfortunately today my ears are ringing.
The band performed a few treats, for those in the audience familiar with other Patton works. Two Lovage tracks: “Anger Management” and “Book of the Month”, and the Peeping Tom, Patton/Automator, track “Mojo”. Both acts I would highly recommend a listen.
I’ll never understand the point of encores. I think it’s a very rare occasion when a band leaves the stage, audience still cheering, and a wave of panic sets in: “Oh no, what are we going to play? We played everything. If we go back out now and do another song, it will be something that we haven’t rehearsed or anything! What are we going to do! They’re still cheering! Aaagh!”. Chances are, the encore is written into the set list. Why waste the time of exiting and re-entering the stage, just play a set and finish! Anyway enough ranting.

Crudo performed 2 encores. The first was one song. The second was 2 songs, ending with a David Bowie cover of “Life On Mars”. It was hard to film things, but I got an incredibly short clip, up on my Flickr, along with the other pictures from the show. Enjoy.
Pete: Well, the presence of Mike Patton doesn’t guarantee I’ll like something - or that it’s even good, and not just shouts, growls, clicks and whistles.
Adam: Right.
Adam: “Adult Themes For Voice”.
Pete: Good ol’ that.
Coffee, Oatmeal and Bagels…
… really go well together.
I gave up my non-coffee-drinking escapade. Yes, it was an escapade.
Mainly About Heroes
I decided to completely cut coffee from my diet. It’s been a whole week so far. To replace coffee, I went and got the highest caffeinated tea I could find. Honestly, I didn’t look that long, I got some Irish Breakfast thing. Plus there’s the stuff in the break room at work.
Anyway. Coffee is not good for you, right? Tea is, right? That’s my understanding at least. Well apparently, to have the full “I don’t drink coffee, I drink tea and am therefore healthier”-effect you also have to cut caffeine. Now I’m thinking about switching back since I don’t plan on only drinking herbal non-caffeinated tea. Blech.
Also, I’ve been catching up on Heroes season 2 (via Netflix watch-instantly). Heroes is like the “cute” version of Lost. The acting, dialog, and plot aren’t all that great, yet after an episode is over I find myself forgetting all of that and thinking what a good show it is.
Another Odd Listing of Thoughts
I miss Pepe’s Pizza.
Regarding yesterday’s post, turns out my sister is going to the Sigur Ros show in Manhattan. There’s one ticket up in the air too, if only I could afford a $450+ plane ticket!
This morning was one of those “off” mornings:
- To start, I’m tired.
- When I was brushing my teeth, I left my medicine cabinet door open, which usually isn’t a problem when it’s open all the way. Today I left it half opened. So, after I was done rinsing, with my head down near the faucet, I smacked the back of my head on the corner of the door.
- I had 3 things to bring to work today, my Netflix DVD (to return), my laptop (for work), and my lunch (to eat). I put everything in the same area, even the food - out of the fridge and onto my table. Somehow, I forgot the food and didn’t remember until I was at Van Ness Ave. Since it was out of the fridge and would go bad, I turned around and got it.
- Then when I was pouring water into my cup for tea, I managed to hold the cup nowhere near the tap while I poured water all over the floor and my shoes.
- I had an urge this morning to record some music when I got home. That’s now gone. Boo.
I just installed AIM 6 after realizing I was using 5.9 because my computer at my OLD job was a slow piece of shit. Now I have a normal computer and can actually run the latest version.
Sigur Ros World Tour Dates
My reason for not writing frequently this month is a short array of reasons. We’ll call it excuseArray.
excuseArray[0] = “I’ve been busy”
excuseArray[1] = “I haven’t been able to think of anything decent to write about”
excuseArray[2] = “The times I have ‘worked’ on the site, it has been strictly to make an upgrade. Which has only failed miserably”
excuseArray[3] = “I really want a website makeover (a small one) before I get back into the habit of writing stupid posts again”
Sigur Ros is slowly announcing shows for their summer tour. One of the 4 total United States dates is in Manhattan. The closest venue is in Omaha City, Nebraska. This is a very disappointing thing.
I’m not sure which is the worst way to not see a touring artist: 1) The artist is not performing anywhere near you. Or 2) Realizing the artist is on tour and searching for tickets after the date in your city has already passed. I think #2 sucks more, but they both definitely suck.
It’s nearly the weekend! I’ll have better updates after I can learn how to write CSS.
Hello May, Happy New Month
I guess it’s not actually summer just yet, so no “Happy Summer”.
My weekend Vegas trip starts tomorrow evening. 10:30-something flight. Should I drive to and park at the airport, or take BART? Maybe I’ll flip a coin on that one.
What’s new? Things. What am I going to write here? These few fragmented sentences. Oh, and I’ll insert this picture and immediately end after:

*Update*: I’ve gone to the break room to get a cup of coffee twice now. Both times the coffee pot only had about 1/4 cup left.
*Update #2*: This is my 100th post!!
