Sigur Ros in Berkeley California

with one comment

A very special thanks to Dan for the heads-up on the upcoming Sigur Ros’ Fall tour! Thanks to him, I a) learned of the tour, and b) was able to get tickets during the presale for the October 3rd at the Greek Theatre.

As an aside, I finally have California license plates for my car. I feel official now.

Special DVD Features

with one comment

Color, Interactive Menus, and Scene Access should not be considered “special features” of a DVD or Blu-Ray.

I don’t think people read the back of a DVD in much detail anyway. But if they did, I doubt these “features” would be all that impressive. “Sweet! I can skip to any scene I want!? And there’s an interactive menu for me to interact with before I start my movie!? And my movie will be in color!? Ah, technology…”

With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly

Or “Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust”, the title Sigur Ros’ fifth studio album set to be released later this month. My dad and sister just saw them perform last night in the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center in New York. It was a fantastic show, apparently.

Listen to the new album at last.fm (the audio is better quality compared to sigur-ros.com)

I Want Opinions

with 5 comments

I finally got around to watching the movie Once in its entirety. Since Netflix doesn’t allow users to give fractions of stars, I’m going to give it 2 stars (instead of 2.5), which means “I Didn’t Like It”. The “Girl”, played by Markéta Irglová, really annoyed me. Specifically during the beginning of the film. I’ll explain.

The movie opens with the “Guy” (why don’t they have names?) performing one of his original songs late at night. Then, the “girl” appears and tips him (poorly). The guy is basically blowing her off, but she is persistent, and flirty (in my opinion). They meet again the next day and hang out a bit. And again on the following day. Mind you, both of them are flirting like crazy. Later at night, they’re at the guy’s place on his bed listening to his music. As the girl is about to leave, the guy asks “do you want to stay over?”. The girl is taken aback, and her response is brief silence followed by “well.. fuck this”. She leaves and the next day, the guy is apologizing for ‘how he acted’!

First: The fact that the girl has a husband would justify her reaction if the guy knew about it! He didn’t find out until way later. Second: If you have a husband, girl, why are you totally into this guy? Third: Your husband left you, you’re acting like you’ve moved on. What’s the problem with someone you’re clearly into asking if you’d like to spend the night? Fourth: React nicer! How about something like “Aw, I’m sorry you thought that’s what was going on here. I have a husband, you see, and do not want to sleep with you”. Not “well fuck this”!

I feel that this was a legitimate question given the circumstances leading to it. It was a yes or no question without any sort of pressure at all. I’m not saying that she was wrong to turn him down, just her reaction was out of line. A simple, kind “no” would have been appropriate.

Thoughts? Comments?

As an aside, why can’t Netflix users give star fractions? The recommendation engine displays them! No fair.

Ninety At Night

without comments

I absolutely love the weather here. While everyone in the Northeast is braving temperatures above 90 degrees at night, it’s a nice 70-something. Not to mention the cool breeze and bright sunshine.

Though, from what I hear it will be getting foggy pretty soon…

Two additional things. Number one. Did you know the cost to register a car in a new state is dependent on the initial cost or value of said car? Even the date of purchase plays a factor. And let’s not forget the penalties for not registering it within 20 days of the “first use” in the new state. I’m going to the DMV on Friday. We’ll see how much things will cost. I don’t want to register my car. If the state is requiring me to register, why should I be paying for it? Just give me a new tag!

The second thing is that Apple announced the new iPhone… yay… It’s $200 for everyone who signs up for a new 2-year contract, and god knows how much it will cost for us “normies” who already own one. Why wasn’t my phone discounted when I first signed up? Hmm?

Also, the iTunes store sucks. Go buy a f**king CD.

Epic List Finale

with 2 comments

This should be another “fucking finally” post. What started on March 13th was finally completed this weekend. I have listened to my iPod (in alphabetical order, by song). Hooray for me!

Now I can go back to playing whatever I feel like.

“Fucking Finally”

It is June. I am now 24 years and 4 months old. It’s nearly July, and therefore halfway through 2008.

Anyway, I bring you.. a few images that you can very easily find on my Flickr but I have copied here in no particular order and have thusly turned this particular blog entry into a longer-than-normal post which ultimately shrinks up the scroll bar for the whole page and makes it harder if someone wants to use the bar to navigate to any other of my older entries without having to click on the particular post’s title under the “Recent Posts” heading in the right hand navigation section.
