New Years 2008

Adam and Jim

I’ll be fixing up this page as a little ongoing project. I’d like to gather a list of perform-able songs at a New Years Eve show. So here’s how things are going to work. If you have an idea for a cool song, leave a comment. These comments will be treated different than the comments on the rest of the page. You can use all fake information, I’m only interested in the song title and artist (and any other info you may want to give).

Since I can’t yet figure out a way to make this specific page dynamic to all readers we’ll have to stick with comments for now. I’ll review and make the information a part of the page, and then delete the comment. Pass this along and feel free to bombard me with submissions. (I’ll have to listen to songs I haven’t heard of before)

I will also post some more information here as I feel like it.

For now, here’s the list (in absolutely no particular order:

  • “Livin’ On The Edge” - Aerosmith
  • “Even Less” - Porcupine Tree (shortened)
  • “December” - Collective Soul (acoustic version, re-worked)
  • “Typical” - Mute Math
  • “Knights of Cydonia” - Muse
  • “Givin’ Back” - Quick Response (Clemente, Noel)
  • “Rip OFF” - Quick Response (updated, hopefully)
  • “Pump It Up” - Elvis Costello (Buckcherry-cover style)
  • “Auld Lang Syne” - Traditional
  • “Fuckin’ Up” - Neil Young (Pearl Jam-cover style)
  • “Brick Attack” - Red Morning (Fixed up quite a bit)
  • “Poets” - The Tragically Hip
  • “Map of Your Head” - Muse (90’s pop-rock style)
  • “Dark Side of the Moon (Medley)” - Pink Floyd (arrangement)
  • “The Man Who Sold The World” - David Bowie
  • “Power of Love” - Huey Lewis and the News
  • “Dear Mr. Fantasy” - Traffic
  • “Sunshine of Your Love” - Cream
  • “___” - Stone Temple Pilots (placeholder)
  • “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” - Genesis (kicked up a notch, Bam!)
  • “Hyper Music” - Muse (Blues -> Rock Rendition)
  • “Train Kept A Rollin’” - Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin/Aerosmith
  • “Baba O’Riley” - The Who
  • “See Me Feel Me/Listening To You” - The Who

  • “Where The Streets Have No Name” - U2
  • “Sympathy For The Devil” - Rolling Stones
  • “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

  3. “Map of Your Head” by Muse, I’ve come up with a 90’s Pop-rock style arrangement I think will be awesome!

  4. Love it! Perfect

I think I’m going to keep the comments here as well as update the page. Make things interesting. Or not interesting at all.

  5. Lot’s of songs:

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (we can do most of the songs)
Echoes by Pink Floyd (all 25+ minutes of it)
The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie (not Nirvana, even though it’s the same song)
Some U2 songs, I don’t know which ones but their songs are all very basic it’s the arrangements that are tough.
    Dear Mr. Fantasy by Traffic
Sunshine of Your Love by Cream
    Some STP song, you decide
I think we can handle the title track from The Lamb by Genesis. The song’s kind of simple so I think we can work out our own arrangement.

    More to come.

By the way, I think that Arriving Somewhere by Porcupine Tree is very boring visually. Or rather that the band themself (is that the right usage) is very boring and the supplemental visuals/effects/cinematography is what makes it watchable. Otherwise just listen to the music which is indeed excellent! Sorry brotha! And I do agree that Love probably only won because it was The Beatles.

That reminds me, we’ve got to play some Beatles songs!

  6. No Echoes. Definitely far far too long. I’d suggest maybe an edited version with the more up-beat sections? Oh wait, there aren’t any, ha!

Perhaps a medley of some U2 songs?

We could even do the Aerosmith “Crazy, Cryin’ Amazacrazy” (were you at that show?)

I added some to the page (as you can see).

  7. Alex is going to have to sing The Power Of Love.

I don’t remember the Amazacrazy or whatever, that must have been the one show I wasn’t at. As for Echoes, Scott and I play it too well to completely ommit, we’ll played the abridged version.

  8. BBQ Ribs is a must play. The 13-bar version of Next 100 miles in Am, ….

I agree with most of what has been said already.

Where the Streets Have No Names (or a medley of U2 as Adam suggested)
    Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)
Rip OFF (the “Revisited” version j/k about the Revisited part)
    This

I’ll add a bit more at a later time.

  9. Some additions from our rehearsal two weeks ago.

Hyper Music by Muse, the blues rendition
Train Kept A Rollin’ by The Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin/Aerosmith (blue rock standard)
Baba O’Riley by The Who complete with backing track
See Me Feel Me/Listening To You (the ending of Tommy) by The Who
Completely Improvised Jam/Soundscape by Us. “We’re so good we don’t need to rehearse or even write songs!”
Where The Streets Have No Name by U2 will be our U2 song, no medley necessary.
I’m thinking either Lightbulb Sun or the beginning bit of Last Chance To Evacuate… can be our Porcupine Tree song.

When are you going to change that picture?

Also I think I can make some videos to play behind us. I think.

  10. I forgot Mary Jane’s Last Dance by TP and the HBs.

  11. I think we need to do an acoustic set in the middle of this beast!

Sympathy For The Devil by the Rolling Stones should be a good one, so I’m officially requesting it!

  12. Updated the page (finally)

No “Even Less” by PT? I held off putting a PT song up for now. Lightbulb Sun is kinda slow. So is Last Chance… decisions, decisions.

I’ll post one of the pictures soon, I’m slow.

A video would be really sweet. We’ll obviously be video/audio-taping the entire thing.
